A company called “Board Certified” is sending marketing materials labeled as “invoices.” The letter requests the immediate submission of your credit card information by fax or mail to cover a $299 “membership fee.” Please do not be misled by these materials as they are not originating from the American Board of Ophthalmology and are not invoices for any ABO certification and recertification activities.
To check on the status of your ABO account, simply log in to the ABO website with your email address and password. From your diplomate profile, you will have access to all past receipts and a secure method for making future online payments.
As a reminder, actual ABO recertification fees are $200 annually. This fee covers access to all ABO-sponsored MOC activities, up to 8 CME and self-assessment credits, a public search profile, and two printed certificates suitable for framing during each recertification cycle. Diplomates in active duty United States military service may request a 50% refund on all fees. By responsibly and transparently managing its finances, and with the generous support of more than 500 dedicated volunteers, the ABO has kept fees for maintaining certification stable since 2012.
Please call the ABO Office at 610-664-1175 or write to info@abop.org if you have any questions about fees, payments, or would like to verify any communications you receive regarding your board certification status.
