ABO Director Sarah Nehls, MD, Recognized for Participation in the Council of the American Academy of


American Board of Ophthalmology Director Sarah M. Nehls, MD, of Madison, WI, was recognized for her participation on the Council of the American Academy of Ophthalmology during AAO 2019 in San Francisco. Representatives to the Academy’s Council are determined by each state ophthalmology society and by ophthalmic subspecialty and specialized interest societies.

Dr. Nehls served for three years as a councilor for the ABO. On December 31st, Dr. Nehls will conclude her term on the Academy Council.

ABO Director K. David Epley, MD, of Kirkland, WA, has been selected by the ABO to serve as Councilor and will begin his term on January 1, 2020. Dr. Epley will participate at the Spring Council Meeting in conjunction with the April 22-25, 2020 Mid-Year Forum in Washington, D.C.

The Council serves as an advisory body to the Academy’s Board of Trustees. More than 100 Academy members serve on this body as liaisons between their society and the Academy.
