Apply Now to the 2019-2020 ABMS Visiting Scholars Program


The American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) Visiting Scholars Program is a one-year, part-time program that positions early career physicians as future health care leaders. The Visiting Scholars Program facilitates research in areas including physician assessment, performance and quality improvement, continuing professional development, and initial and continuing board certification.

The application period for 2019–2020 closes May 1, 2019 at 5:00 p.m. CT. Notification of acceptance is made in early July 2019 and program participation begins in September 2019.

ABMS Visiting Scholars:

  • Remain at their home institutions or organizations to conduct research of value to their institutions and the ABMS Member Boards community

  • Participate in monthly webinars, attend three in-person meetings with experts in physician assessment, quality improvement, health policy, and health care systems and services

  • Present their research to national audiences

  • Receive an award of $12,500 to support their program-related research and travel expenses
