ABMS Seeks Public Members


On behalf of the Governance Committee of the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS), ABMS is seeking nominations for several public member positions on the ABMS Board of Directors and committees. Nomination materials for the following positions are to be submitted no later than Monday, December 2, 2019. The nominations will be collated for review by the Governance Committee during their December meeting.

The ABMS recognizes the benefits inherent within a diverse community of officers, directors, representatives and committee members. In a desire to reflect this diversity, the ABMS seeks individuals with varied experiences, perspectives and backgrounds to include minorities and women. Nominations of public members in all career phases are encouraged. 2020 Special Call for Nominations

  • Committee on Certification (COCERT): (1) Public Member

  • Ethics and Professionalism Committee (EPCOM): (1) Public Member

Nomination Process

  • ABMS appreciates your careful consideration of the request for nominations. To facilitate the efforts of the Governance Committee during its deliberations, the following forms need to be completed for each nominee. Please note the forms are now completed online.   • Nominees are to complete a Service Application that includes a brief statement of interest, and submit an abbreviated Curriculum Vitae (a CV without presentations or publications - 2 page limit);

  • Nominators are to complete a Nominator Cover Sheet that includes a brief statement of support.

  • Nominations will be approved by the ABMS Board of Directors in June 2020. Selected nominees will begin service on July 1, 2020. If you have any questions, please contact Carrie Radabaugh. Thank you for your participation in this important activity.

Time Commitment

  • Public Members of the ABMS Board of Directors and committee members will serve an initial term of three (3) years and are eligible to serve two (2) consecutive terms.

  • The ABMS Board of Directors meets three times each year. Board meetings are generally at least two full days in duration; preparation and participation is expected. ABMS committees meet one to two times per year at the ABMS Offices in Chicago and have several conference calls during the year. Preparation and participation in committee activities are expected. A record of committee member attendance and participation will be maintained by the ABMS staff.
