New Directors Set to Join the ABO in 2019


At its June meeting, the American Board of Ophthalmology voted to invite Chris V. Albanis, M.D., and Bennie H. Jeng, M.D., to join the Board of Directors in 2019.

Dr. Albanis is a Managing Partner at Arbor Centers for EyeCare, a Clinical Associate at the University of Chicago, and Chair of the Department of Ophthalmology at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Chicago, where she practices comprehensive ophthalmology. Dr. Albanis has held numerous leadership posts with the Illinois Society of Eye Physicians and the American Academy of Ophthalmology. She became board certified in 2006, participates in MOC, and serves as an ABO Examiner and item writer.

Dr. Jeng chairs the Department of Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. A researcher in the study of cornea and external disease, he has published more than 100 peer-reviewed papers and 20 book chapters. Dr. Jeng is a past member of the editorial board of JAMA Ophthalmology, and currently serves as an Associate Editor for Ophthalmology, Cornea, and Eye and Contact Lens, in addition serving on several other editorial boards. He became board certified in 2004, participates in MOC, and volunteers as an ABO Examiner and item writer.

ABO Directors Sophia Chung, M.D.; Claude Cowan, M.D.; Kenneth Goins, M.D.; Dale Heuer, M.D.; and public director Matthew Fitzgerald, DrPH, will conclude their terms at the end of 2018.
