Research Opportunity: ABMS Visiting Scholars

American Board of Ophthalmology candidates and diplomates are invited to apply for The American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) Visiting Scholars Program, a one-year, part-time program intended to provide exposure to the fields of professional assessment and education, quality improvement, and regulatory policy while promoting research and scholarship in areas related to Board Certification.

Scholars receive:

  • Support from ABMS leadership to enhance their research projects related to certification

  • A unique education about current certification issues and initiatives through interactive monthly videoconferences and in-person meetings with health care leaders

  • Exposure to the work of certification boards through in-person participation in committee meetings, conferences and forums, and discussions with leadership

The program is open to early career physicians; junior faculty including assistant professors, instructors, fellows, and residents; and individuals holding advanced degrees in public health, health services research, and other relevant disciplines. Applications are due to ABMS by May 1.

Applicants should have a project that is ongoing or ready to begin and a designated institutional mentor to help guide their work. The project may build on existing research at the scholar’s institution.
