The American Board of Ophthalmology has extended the deadline to complete the Demonstration of Ophthalmic Cognitive (DOCK) Examination for Maintenance of Certification (MOC) through December 31, 2018.
If you plan to take the DOCK, you must register on your MOC Status Page, schedule your appointment, and complete the online proctored examination no later than December 31. Upon registration, you may immediately schedule your preferred testing appointment through your ABO MOC Status Page.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I take the DOCK Examination at a test center?
No. The examination is only being offered by remote proctor through December 31.
What does “remote proctoring” mean?
The ABO has contracted with online test vendor ProctorU to provide a secure, virtual testing environment. A test proctor will connect to your computer via webcam and microphone for the examination. Click here to test your computer system and watch the overview video produced by ProctorU.
When can I schedule my test appointment?
Once you register for the examination, you can immediately select an appointment that fits your schedule, subject to proctor availability. Scheduling is available through your ABO MOC Status Page. In general, there are available appointments mornings, afternoons, evenings, and even in the middle of the night, including on weekends. The deadline to schedule and complete the examination is December 31, 2018.
Why can’t I take the DOCK Examination next year?
This is the final year for the DOCK Examination. In 2019, all diplomates will transition to the Quarterly Questions program and the DOCK will be discontinued.
When will I receive my pass/fail DOCK results?
Typically, online test-takers receive their results from the ABO within 2-3 weeks.
What happens if I do not pass the DOCK?
You will transition to the new Quarterly Questions program. If you are up to date with your MOC activities, you may also qualify for an extension of your ABO certificate.
What if I want to choose Quarterly Questions instead of the DOCK?
You may choose either assessment option. You are not required to complete both the DOCK and Quarterly Questions within the same 10-year cycle. Click here to determine the Quarterly Questions program requirements as they pertain to you.
