Four ABO Directors Conclude 8-Year Terms

On December 31, four Directors of the American Board of Ophthalmology will mark the culmination of eight years of dedicated Board service.

  • (Top left) Director H. Culver Boldt, M.D., is the Marion and Frederick Fuerste, M.D., Professor of Ophthalmology, Director of Ocular Echography Service, and Professor of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine. During his time on the Board, Dr. Boldt focused on enhancing Maintenance of Certification options under the category of Lifelong Learning and Self-Assessment, working on PORTs, CME programs, and SACME activities.
     

  • (Top right) Director and oculoplastic surgeon Philip L. Custer, M.D., is Professor of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. Dr. Custer championed a new joint patient safety initiative in partnership with the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and chaired the Written Examinations Committee of the Board.
     

  • (Bottom left) 2016 Board Chair and pediatric ophthalmologist Nancy A. Hamming, M.D., is in private practice in Lake Forest, IL. She also holds the appointment of Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at Rush University in Chicago. While on the Board, Dr. Hamming chaired the Oral Examinations Committee, where she oversaw the transition to tablet-based exam administration, the Communications Committee, and the Executive Committee.
     

  • (Bottom right) Public Director and accomplished nonprofit association executive Christine McEntee, MHA, is Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of the American Geophysical Union in Washington, DC. As a Public Director for the ABO, Ms. McEntee provided patient and pubic perspective on Board governance and certification programs.
